2019 SO Scarf Project: Maine

SO Maine announced their colours for the 2019 Scarf Project – Purple, Blue, Green.

That happens to be my favourite combination too – or one of my favourite combinations.  It shouldn’t be too hard to get a scarf or two done with those colours, and will of course look great in the group’s featured pattern, stripes.

Here’s the complete list so far.  That brings it to 9 participating states so far.  It’s great to get this going early.   Several more state programs will announce colours in the late summer, and with only 2-3 months left before their deadline to receive scarves, some of the states don’t meet their goal.

So any time you’re in between projects and don’t know what to do, choose a colour combo, and start a striped scarf.

You can always find the complete info on this page, or join the Facebook and Ravelry groups.

See you there!

2019 SO Scarf Project

My goodness! I am really way behind in my posts! It’s been such a hectic, chaotic, and stressful period, and haven’t kept up with everything. Anyway, let’s start fresh this year.

The 2019 Special Olympics is off and running, with 8 states already announcing their colours. It’s also the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics, so this will be a little more special.

Here’s the colours for the 8 states. More states will announce colours by late summer/early fall, so it’s good to get started on these early.

The group has chosen Stripes as the featured pattern, but you can use any pattern/design.

As usual, you’re welcome to join the Facebook and Ravelry groups and meet all the other crafters. The complete info and details will be on a separate page – which I just remembered that I also still have to work on 😲

Anyway, you can’t go wrong with scarves and stripes. Let’s get started!

2018 SO Scarf Project

It’s October ?!?

These days are creeping up so fast on me – I can’t keep up.

It also means that the Special Olympics Scarf Project deadlines are fast approaching!

Here’s the updated list of participating SO states.

2018 Special Olympics Scarf Project

The first deadline is 1 November for SO Iowa.  Yes, 1 November already!  as in 3 weeks from now!!

I’m not worried about SO Iowa though – they’ve got their own fan base of crafters who help them meet their goal for the year.  But if you want to whip up a quick scarf or hat for them, their colours are Bone and Autumn Red.

Our group’s featured pattern this year is Waves and Chevrons.  These are samples from a previous Scarf Project year.

If your state is not participating, please do consider making an item or two for another participating state.  And if you can’t decide on a state, look through the colour combos on the list, and pick one.  The more exciting ones are the main colour/accent colours ones – you can really let your imagination run wild with those!

SO Arkansas has another interesting combo – any 2, 3, or 4 of these colours.

Help spread the word as well.  And you’re more than welcome to join the Facebook page and Ravelry group to connect with other crafters working on the Scarf Project (see links in the sidebar).

Hope to see you there, and let’s get crafting!

2018 Special Olympics Scarf Project

One more state has announced their colours for the 2018 Scarf Project.

SO Maine has chosen the colours Purple, Grey, and Black as their colours.  It looks kind of a darkish combination, but I’m thinking elegant designs for this, don’t you think?

It will certainly work well with our featured pattern for the project – Waves/Chevrons.

It’s so good that so many states – nine so far! – have chosen their colours early.  I hope that this gives the crafters enough time to work on them, before the end of the year crush comes around again!  But with so many priorities along the way, I know it’s hard to keep this in mind throughout the year when working on those crafty projects.  I’ll try to post on this regularly – I really should take advantage of those scheduling posts feature !

Anyway, you’re welcome to join the Facebook and Ravelry groups on knitting and crocheting for the SO Scarf Project.  And of course, this page 2018 SO Scarf Project – is always available.

Spread the word to your crafty friends, and come on over and join us on this worthy cause !

Thanks for all your help and support of the project!

2018 SO Scarf Project Starts

We’re done with the 2017 Special Olympics Scarf Project !

Not sure if all the participating states reached their goals, but if they didn’t, hopefully they came close to it.  It seemed to be a slow year for our groups this year.  There are the perennial favourite states, who have no problem reaching their goals.  And then there’s the other states who struggle to reach their goal 😦

Now we’re off and running with the 2018 Scarf Project, with six state programs already announcing their colours !  Yaaayyy !!  Hopefully that means that these states will be done, or halfway to their goal by the time other states announce their colours in the late summer.

So, here’s an early start to the 2018 Scarf Project … Complete info and details can always be found on the 2018 SO Scarf Project page.  Check back every now and then – maybe your state program will join this year!

2017 SO Scarf Project: The Last Four

And suddenly, we’re down to the last four states in the last two weeks of the 2017 Special Olympics Scarf Project.

Alaska, New Hampshire, South Dakota and Washington.

All have deadlines at the end of the month.

If you are able to – and can knit or crochet fast 🙂 – there’s still time to whip up a scarf or earwarmer and send it on to them.

Complete info can be found on this 2017 SO Scarf Project.

Thanks to all who helped and supported this cause.

2017 Special Olympics Scarf Project

The 2017 Special Olympics Scarf Project is in full swing.

Actually, we’re nearing the end of the project for some participating states, with about four states holding their winter games soon.  But don’t worry – there’s still another 12 participating states that you can knit and crochet items for.

For a full list of participating states and what they need, go to the 2017 SO Scarf Project page.

In the meantime, be inspired by the items made by our Facebook and Ravelry group members.
